Wesley Nurse Ministry at DSUMC:
 
Amy Roedl, the Wesley Nurse at DSUMC, serves as a health educator, health advisor, health promoter, and referral agent to the low-income and uninsured community members and congregation. The programs provided by the Wesley Nurse focus on health promotion and illness prevention and aredeveloped to take into consideration body, mind, and spirit.
 
The Wesley Nurse Can Help With Access To:
• Medical or dental examination
• Behavioral health evaluation
• Diagnostic procedures (examples: laboratory work, x-ray)
• Treatment, such as providing me with medication or counseling
• Health and parenting education and wellness activities (example: exercise class)
• Referrals to other services
• Health screenings like blood pressure and blood sugar checks
• Transfer of care in case of an emergency (like calling 911)

Health Ministry Team:
 
The Health Ministry Team partners with the Wesley Nurse in order to engage in health ministry to the under-served. Anyone interested in the health needs of the congregation/community in welcome to join!

The Functions of the Health Ministry Team:
1. Identifies community and congregational assets and resources
2. Utilizes assets and resources identified toward the promotion of health and the prevention of illness in the community and the congregation
3. Develops a plan of action
4. Assists the Wesley Nurse with planning and implementing activities such as workshops, health fairs and educational programs
5. Meets monthly during Program start-up or if the Wesley Nurse is new to your church.Once the health ministry is functioning, this can be changed to an “as needed” basis but at least quarterly.
